The problems involved with predicting orders include the data being predicted not being correct resulting in a large number of products not being sold resulting in a loss for the company, This is also the time that many people will be buy Christmas presents before the big rush meaning that products may go out quicker then expected resulting in large reorders to be done which will cause a the cost of paying for the emergency orders to increase.
The model shows us what may happen if the people buy do the same as previous years but many people will probably change their buying habits due to changes to the economy or just finding cheaper items that will affect business and leading to products we have bought not selling due to lack of customer interest.
We need to also know what customers buying habits are because customers change their habits to suit themselves, we must make a questionnaire where customers choose the shoe they are most likely to buy and order in stocks of this shoe so that we can meet demand the only problem is that some customers may lie or not take part in the questionnaire resulting in a lack of customers input an ultimately a failure.

Data Sources - What are they?
Data sources come in many different forms such as printed objects which include books and newspapers, digital forms such as Statistical websites which include the CIA fact book, sensors can also be used to source data as they are used to measure the temperature, database are also another data source as they store data that can be updated and information can be searched via queries and surveys which allows companies to get customer opinions on products.
The best data source their in my opinion is surveys as this allows companies to get the opinions on what customers like and dislike and allows the companies to change the ways in which their products appeals and unappeals to their customers.

Find out about WLANs
These WLAN projects are mainly located in the UK but can also be found I places such as Canada, Australia and USA.
These projects have been created to provide a an internet connection that can be used by and only by a community making it safe for them to use as no one form other area can access it as it is specially for that area.
They serve groups such as business and communities by providing them with a wide area network which can be used to access people from other locations which is very different to a Local area network.
I believe they will have an impact on the digital divide as they can help people gain access to the internet so they can talk or email people in different states, countries and so on making it a community based wireless making it more likely that they will continue to use the internet.

Researching my communities ICT access
People that could benefit from ICT are people who are on benefits and don’t have a job as they have no way on making their own money ad must rely on other people so that they can live.
The impact of the digital divide is that most jobs are IT based so it means that some people must at least know their way around a computer to at least get some kind of job in IT which can be difficult if some people have no access to a computer.
People in our home town have access to computers via the town’s library and some schools in our area do provide some lessons in ICT to help them to get a better understanding and maybe move on to a qualification in ECDL.

Researching Initiatives to fund the digital divide
I have chosen to research UK online.
The purpose of UK online is to give people internet and computer access and to help them learn new computer skills.
It relates to the digital divide because people who are unable to get computers or have any access to a computer are on the wrong side of the digital divide as they are unable to learn how and what a computer can be used for and how it can improve their lives.
The main target clients are people who have no access to a computer but usually go to libraries, schools and community centres as these are areas that they have easy access to.
The strengths of UK online are people can learn how to use a computer an can get qualifications from it making it easier for people on benefits that attend these centres to get a job, it allows people with visual and other impairments to learn how to use a computer and on its website it does provide some answers to IT words such as Email and URL as many people may not know what they are and what they are for.
The weakness of UK online are that some centres do ask people to pay to use their centres whereas some are mostly free to use and since their website is online people without a computer cannot access it since they don’t have a computer which is quite ironic since they are trying to get people to use computers when they have a website so the only way anyone is going to gain any information is if they are told by a friend.
Improvements that could be made are they could provide people with a paper based leaflet that can be pasted to people in the area which would allow them to know where there is a centre and how they can reach it.

Case Study - ICT and pensioners in rural England
I feel that the technology has made a genuine impact on the lives of Dorothy and Clive as they have been able to learn certain things about computers and use them for there own or community needs which is a great help in informing people about community gatherings and other things, also because they can now use the internet effectively they can do all the things they would of done without a computer just within there home.
I believe there lives would be slightly worse as Clive has to keep up with community things and he must do this all by hand which can become very tiring and take a lot of time, also they would have to travel to get food and other useful necessities but if it is during the winter months it could lead to one or both of them getting ill.
If they have their own computer the community computer that is 3 miles away will be of not a lot of use to them now as they can now do all the things they did on the other computer at home the only reasons they would need the computer would be to get data of the computer that Clive was working on or if the home computer was to break and they had no other way of getting work done.

Who studies computing subjects?
At school I am studying Applied ICT and in our class we have only to female students in our class the rest are male.
I can see that there is a very large difference in male to female students this may be because ICT is mainly a male profession as many teachers, technicians and other IT jobs mostly men do these this may be because they are more likely to adapt to new information and software making them more reliable.
The impact of a lack of female students in ICT means that ICT is to be kept a male profession as either female students just don’t want to learn or have no interest in ICT or it is a very hard subject for female students to get in to.

Internet access for Homeless people
Five ways in which the internet can change the life of a homeless person are that it allows them to get an understanding of how internet works and can pursue a career in that field, they can access social networking sites and get friends that they can socialize with, they can start a business by setting up a website with the product they are selling, they can start up a bank account and keep money that would grow in time and they can talk to people via email which is good if they are unable to reach them.
The impact that not having the internet has on a homeless person is that it would cause them to become lonely and hostile which could cause problems outside on the streets.
5 things that are more important then the internet to a homeless person are shelter as they have no house, food as they will have gone some days with out food, family as they will have been left to themselves for many months, money as they would be able to buy things and buy housing and water as they need water to stay hydrated and live.

What did the world summit achieve?
The main aim of the summit was to get everyone to understand that there is a digital divide that is affecting almost all less economically developed countries and that something should be done, it also allowed them to make some decisions about how they can combat the digital divide
The 3 positive points that have come out of the summit are that by 2015 at least half of the world’s population will have access to some type of electronic device that can access the internet, a declaration was passed to help less economically developed countries and it has helped to evolve how IT is used today.
The 3 negative points that have come from the summit are that only 40 heads of state attended meaning that not many people understand the problems, it was difficult for countries to agree on things such as the internet making it hard for declarations to be passed and as 90% of the population of the earth were offline it was also again hard for the countries to agree.
I feel that the summit was not successful as the countries were unable to agree as at the time it was a very controversial topic and as only a few heads of state attended not everyone understands the problems.

Email in the Solomons
The extent of the digital divide is large as the island has not had any type of communication with other people as they cannot provide the people there with IT access the only way anyone could contact anyone outside of the country is by satellite phone which are highly expensive.
The problems that have caused the divide are the area being highly undeveloped meaning they are unable to provide the population with IT, also the area has been in turmoil due to gang wars and bloodshed that may have stopped the country form developing.
The impact of the divide has caused the country to become highly undeveloped making it hard for the country to keep up to date with other countries in term of IT use, jobs and business.
The solutions to these problems have been the introduction of Email stations which allow people to send email there are only 14 according to the BBC website but this may have changed and also the charity that is providing the country with this technology says they would like to improve on the use of IT by making it more then just using the stations for Email.
The idea I have that could be introduced to help close the digital divide is the introduction of lessons to teach the inhabitants of the island how to use computers.
