John could use a PDA to contain all the information in his diary and address book as this will allow him to carry fewer things as a PDA is lightweight and easy to carry and some types of PDA can be used as mobile phones saving John money as he will not have to carry small coins for phones, they can also be used as a portable media player which will allow him to travel out side of the car and will still be able to listen to music which should be an advantage and also some types of PDA’s have access to the internet allowing him to check his personal information or his email.

John could use a GPS which will allow him to save all the address he must visit while also allowing him to add newer address, the GPS can also be used to help John get to customer address on time with only slight chances of him being late. John can use the GPS to check the locations of certain customer address so he can plan his route and make his time more efficient.

John could use a Laptop to ensure that all his administration and sales are handled properly while traveling, when ever he has time to take a break John can use some of his time to check his administration and other information while also being able to access the internet near a Wi-Fi hotspot allowing him to take care of all the business details before Friday if he has enough time, plus as he has the internet he can use certain websites like http://www.theaa.com/travelwatch/planner_main.jsp to plan a route from the address he is at to the address he wants to go to.

John could use software to contain all the information in his diary and address book as he could save all the information on a Microsoft Word document, he can save all the information in the sales catalogue and its latest prices in a Microsoft Excel File or Microsoft Access File and he would be able to create order forms using Microsoft Access forms option so that he can include information on prices and quantity on a form.

John could use a Mobile Phone to save money he would usually be using on pay phones and also he will have a phone with him at all time so that customers can call him and talk about business, he can also keep his phone charged in his car so that he always a phone that won’t die on him as he is talking to a customer.

John could use the internet to help set up his own website that he could use to provide information on his business so that he would not have to travel so much as customers can check his website for details, he could also use the internet to sent of an email account so customers can send emails to him and he can reply back to them without having to travel unless he is asked to.

The only disadvantages that can occur with using so much IT is that it would start to become very costly which means that John would have to start raising prices to continues working to buy the products the customer needs, also if his Laptop crashes and he has got rid of all his paper documents and has no back up memory he can get into a lot of trouble as he would not be able to get to certain places, get forms for customers, add new customers and plan his routes has all of his laptops data will have been deleted.
